WHY ELLA HEATING BOILERS?

Our production is addressed especially to consumers in localities where no natural gas is drawn, but also to those who use natural gas today for heating, but who want more safety at about the same amount of power consumption.

Any comparative test shows the superiority of the efficiency of electrode reactors compared to those with resistance and other devices also equipped with resistance, such as stoves, oil radiators, or radiant panels. This is also confirmed by current bills.

Performance

Compare: Two electric oil radiators have 2.2 kW each. Obviously, they can heat only 2 rooms. ELLA 150 can heat a 3-room apartment (5 radiators), its power being the same, meaning up to 4.5 kW (20 A).

Comparative graphs of the operation of ELLA and resistance heating boilers:

1. The graph above shows the water heating rate of the two types of heating boilers with the same power. We can see that due to the lack of thermal barriers inherent to the resistance heating systems (exterior and interior insulation), heating occurs faster. This means that the heating boiler is in operation for a shorter time until the desired temperature is reached.

2. In the graph below we can see that during commissioning, resistance heating systems start suddenly with maximum installed power, while ELLA Systems electrode systems have an elastic curve. In the case of a 5 kW heating boiler, starting from 2 kW it slowly increases its power, depending on the water temperature. Thus, a considerable saving of electricity is achieved, while also exempting the electrical network from overload.

The drawing shows the process of water heating for ELLA heating boilers (left and below) and those with resistance.

We can observe that when it comes to simple boilers, the heating occurs from the surface of the resistance, while in ionization heating boilers the heating occurs from inside the water in the entire volume between the electrodes.

Regarding the operation of ELLA electrode heating boilers, in order for them to fully show their performance, it is very important to observe the rules of commissioning, their location, and the installation of the radiator system. We have encountered cases when the system was installed and commissioned without carefully reading the instructions, consequently resulting in increased power consumption (which was still lower than in other electric heating systems). We draw your attention to this aspect because many heating engineers not authorized by us install our heating boilers with electrodes based only on their previous knowledge and experience. In principle, even a heating engineer which has not been authorized by us can perform the work, provided he is attentive and receptive to instructions because the concept and rules of commissioning for an electrode heating boiler differ greatly from the classic ones and often constitute revolutionary concepts, misunderstood by craftsmen who are not receptive to the new.

Short history

The principle of electrode heating that underlies ELLA heating boilers is well known in the world and even in our country. As such, heating boilers based on the same principle have been operating successfully since 2002, and even longer. Due to the considerably lower power consumption compared to resistance heating systems, these heating boilers continue to become more well-known. Following closely their evolution, we managed to modernize them through ELLA heating boilers, keeping the main advantage: their degree of efficiency. Therefore, today we can offer you a reliable, quiet, safe, and efficient device, which also has the advantage of being small-sized and can be placed in safe spaces, without disturbing or taking up too much space.

Safety

In terms of safety and protection, ELLA heating boilers have the highest level of it. Unlike other types of boilers, the accidental leakage of water from the heating element will not lead to overheating, and it will stop naturally without the help of a system that could fail. Overload control is performed by an automatic current limiter. Accidental disappearance or breakage of the earthing will not lead to a danger of electric shock and even the disappearance of the null will also just naturally and automatically stop the phase of the heating element. It is worth noting that ELLA does not require system pressure and running water. Therefore, we are pleased to let you know that ELLA is probably the best electric heater in the world, being free from shortcomings such as magnetic radiation (found in induction appliances), fire hazards, and electric shock, combined with maximum efficiency. Our heating boilers have approvals (EC), according to Art. 5 of GD no. 1022/2002.

IMPORTANT: In general, electrode heating boilers do not support earthing as long as the electrical installation is equipped with a differential fuse, which has become mandatory in the EU. We have managed to overcome this shortcoming so that our heating boilers operate without problems in systems with differential safety.

Most of the population of European countries, especially France, have electric home heating systems (a share of about 75%). By using ELLA central heating boilers instead of conventional electric heating systems, you can achieve savings of over 35%.

An economical alternative heating solution

There is an almost widespread perception that electric heating is expensive and should therefore be avoided as much as possible.
As a result, potential users of central heating systems in areas without natural gas networks sometimes postpone the installation of their own heating boiler for years, thus depriving themselves of the comfort and economic advantages of a central heating system.
The tests performed and the impeccable performance of ELLA central heating boilers in thousands of apartments, houses, offices, gas stations, and commercial spaces for over 10 years attest to the veracity of the above statements. This heating boiler is an alternative to centralized urban systems in urban areas, a safe and cost-effective heat source for private homes, offices, hotels, etc.

ELLA Systems heating boiler, a modern and simple solution for heating homes, offices, small commercial spaces, and holiday homes

Although heating with electricity represents in western countries approximately 30 - 70% of the heating systems, in Romania this percentage is insignificant because electric heating is associated with very high operating costs, bearable only by those with high incomes.
Electric heating is known to us only as an auxiliary heating system and less as a stand-alone system, and commercial equipment, such as air heaters and electric oil radiators, are designed and built primarily for this use.

Advantages

Due to the above, the attempt to use this auxiliary equipment as a stand-alone system did not have the expected efficiency and led to high costs. All this has led to the creation of a false perception among users that the electric heating system is expensive and inefficient.
However, micro central heating boilers are devices designed and built specifically to be used as a stand-alone heating system, with the equipment, power, and automation necessary for autonomous operation.
The micro central electric heating boiler has a number of qualities that in many ways make it superior to gas boilers, of which we list a few:
• Thermal efficiency is almost 100% (in the case of ELLA ionization heating boilers), being more efficient by approx. 30% than any other electrical system;
• Operation without using air from the room or outside, without producing flue gases (does not require a chimney or air intake);
• Possibility to place anywhere in the house, even in the living room or closet;
• Very quiet while in use;
• Simple automation, controls, protections, and adjustments.

These qualities seem even more valuable if we take into account the fact that the efficiency of the gas boiler is a maximum of 70%, and decreases significantly depending on the mode of operation. Flue gas evacuation, even forced, cannot always be carried out in the best conditions, especially with the restrictions on the location of gas boilers. In accordance with the new regulations in the field, gas boilers require professional maintenance and are subject to regular technical inspections.
Of course, it is known that heating with gas boilers is cheaper than with electrical ones, but there are many situations when the installation of a gas boiler is difficult, too expensive, or even impossible (lack of gas, etc.).
Therefore, we will list the mandatory stages and the estimated costs for installing a gas boiler in a flat:
If the disconnection is made with the intention of replacing the central heating system with an individual heating system based on natural gas or liquefied gas, the following conditions shall be met:
a) The flue gas evacuation will be done through a chimney that will exceed the level of the attic of the building. This provision of Government Ordinance 73/2002 is in force, but does not currently apply;
b) The owner of the apartment is required to have a permanent service contract for the entire duration of the installation functioning with an authorized company regarding the maintenance and assurance of the proper functioning of the respective installation;
c) The owner, together with the service company, is jointly and severally liable, as the case may be, for any human damage or loss in case of an explosion caused by the malfunction of the individual heating installation (extract from Government Ordinance no .: 73/29.08.2002).
d) The gas boiler will be subjected to a periodic technical verification according to TP A1 / 2002, which will authorize the further operation of the device.

For the actual installation of the gas boiler, the necessary steps and works are the following:
• Application to DISTRIGAZ for the separation of the gas installation and the approval of the installation of a gas boiler accompanied by the agreement of the owners’ association;
• Contracting the work with an authorized company that will perform the following works:
- preliminary file submitted to DISTRIGAZ for approval;
- after obtaining the DISTRIGAZ approval, the execution of the work consists of:
- the gas column on the staircase to the apartment in question
- the indoor installation up to the boiler, which will be installed in the kitchen
- the final file submitted to DISTRIGAZ for the reception of the work;
- reception;
- subscription to DISTRIGAZ;
- meter installation by DISTRIGAZ;
- commissioning of the boiler by a State Inspection for the Control of Boilers, Pressure Vessels and Hoisting Equipment authorized company and authorization to operate.

The normal duration of these steps and works is 3 months, and the cost without the gas column in the stairwell: 850 – 1,200 RON. The cost of the gas column is approx. 30 USD/ML. For companies or legal entities, these costs amount to 3,000 – 4,000 RON, without the gas column.
As can be seen from the above, carrying out this work can often be very difficult, and in the case of legal entities (companies, offices, offices) very expensive.
The procedures for installing an electric heating boiler for small spaces are much simpler and easier to follow, these being the following:
• For heating boilers with powers of 3 - 5 kW it is necessary to execute a separate circuit, with copper conductors of 4 mm², provided with automatic fuses of 25 A, from the apartment panel to the heating boiler.

In addition to the high efficiency of any electric heating solution, ELLA does not overload electrical installations, having a much lower absorption at the same heating power

The ELLA heating boiler can be installed wherever it is convenient (kitchen, rooms, closets, vestibule, etc.). Comparing the above, it is obvious that an electric heating boiler can be installed faster, cheaper, and with much less hassle than a gas boiler.

A gas or liquefied gas boiler is a very complex device that operates on a potentially hazardous fuel. It is a device whose manufacture, installation, operation, and maintenance are very strictly regulated in order to prevent accidents whose consequences are always particularly serious.
Although they are designed and implemented in strict compliance with international technical standards and requirements and are equipped with safe and effective systems for the protection of users, their non-compliant or negligent installation, operation, maintenance, and overhaul can lead to serious accidents.
Let’s not forget that heating boilers are installed in the living spaces of users and not in rooms equipped and specially designed for them and that users in our country do not yet have the experience of operating such devices.
Hence the reluctance of the authorities, largely justified, regarding the massive expansion or generalization of heating with gas boilers in collective residential buildings, reflected in the increasingly stringent and restrictive regulations in the field.
All these aspects are much simpler and easier to solve with electric heating boilers.
First of all, it uses electricity that is available in virtually all areas and is not as “invasive” as gas.
In the event of a hypothetical failure of the heating boiler, there is only a risk of interruption of the heat supply and not of an explosion or suffocation of persons inside.
If in terms of investment in the acquisition and installation of a gas boiler, the costs of equipment and all related operations (approvals, authorizations, projects, etc.) are significant, in the case of electric heating boilers it is much lower. At the same time, the operation costs of ELLA Systems are just a little bit higher or comparable to gas.

Here are some aspects to consider, namely:
• If the boiler is intended for heating an apartment witch serves as an office, medical office, or company headquarters, where the working hours are only during the day and where the need for domestic hot water is insignificant, power consumption will be reduced because outside the working hours, the heating boiler will operate with reduced power only for the frost guard (10°C). Equipped with a chronothermostat with weekly programming, the heating program will automatically follow the work schedule, and the heating will work only when necessary during the day, being reduced to the minimum necessary after the program, at night, on weekends, and on holidays. This way the costs are considerably reduced.
• If the heating boiler is designed to heat an apartment used as a home, power consumption will be reduced by using a rigorous chronothermostat programmed in conjunction with the family program and the need for heat at different times of the day.

In addition, there remain all the other advantages shown above that make the electric heating system preferable to both the district heating system and the gas boiler, the installation of which has become almost prohibited when it comes to apartment blocks.

Here you will find an extensive analysis of the characteristics of the operation of electric heating boilers.
However, keep in mind that this refers strictly to resistance heating boilers, while ELLA Systems are ionization-based, which makes the latter approx. 25% more efficient. Deduct only from low power - max. 4.5 kW for a 3-room apartment, compared to 6-9 kW required for the same apartment when a resistance heating boiler is used.
